At 64-66 Broadway the Manhattan Life Insurance building was the first in New York, which has reached the 100m height! Not mentioning just NY; it was the tallest building on the world that time. Exactly it was 348ft (106m) and had 18 stories, was completed in 1894 by the architects of Kimball & Thompson.
The interior was heated and cooled through one of the first uses of electric ventilation.
It had several owners; New York Times had an article in the February of 1928, that the building was sold to the Central Union Trust: "The Manhattan Life Insurance Building at 66 Broadway, for years a
landmark in the financial district, was sold yesterday by the
Manufacturers Trust Company."
Unfortunately this building is now just an important piece of history, you cant visit it! Was demolished in 1963 or 1964 to make way for an annex to 1 Wall Street.
It was the tallest building in NYC between 1894 and 1899.
If you would like to visit the surroundings of the building nowdays, you can find the adress below.
